January 24, 2018 - During the 69th Regular Session of the 18th Sangguniang Panlungsod last January 23, 2018, Councilor Shandee Llido-Pestaño discussed in her privilege speech the preparations for the 2018 Kalilangan Festival.
Councilor Pestaño, who is the Festival Director for the festival which opens on February 22nd, elaborated to the council the collaboration of the Local Government of General Santos, the Department of Tourism Region XII, and Mindanao State University – General Santos City.
This year’s celebration anchors on the theme: “#cultivating culture, inspiring new ways.”
Prof. Alnezzar Ali, representing Mindanao State University, discussed the festival basic to the public. According to Ali, the events of the 2018 Kalilangan festival are based on the festivity’s five core principles: community heritage and culture, community character and sense of place, community engagement, economic vitality, and artist and creative trust – the last being a new addition, giving due recognition to the efforts of General Santos City’s artistic minds who also bring color to the community.
The festival shall contain programs and occasions, community participation, and attractions and amusements. Planned major events include “Dayun Kamo,” the grand opening ceremony; Parada ng Lahi: Kadena de Amor; Wreath-Laying Ceremony; Hudyaka: Sponsor’s Night of Recognition, and the Agi’g Dalit-Pasalamat – the closing ceremony.
The side events feature Kapehan, Hudyat Parada, and Karaban sa Kalilangan, while events under Kultura’t Sining Kalilangan include Kadsagayan Street Dancing competition, Sayaw Pinoy, Aral di Monan, Kadindang sa Tadanan, Baylehan at Haranahan, and Pop Dance. (Hezekiah Kit Canlas/VMO)
